Poster illustration:
Stage performance ("Why't Burp")
Client: Chris Vorster
This poster was designed & illustrated for (now TV actor) Chris
Vorster's satirical stage performance "Why't
Burp" during 1998. Subtitled "'n Afrikaanse Western", it was a send-up of the legend of Wyatt Erp, à la South Africa.
The style was naive and cartoon-like, popular with
young Afrikaners at the time. The poster proved so popular in the
Durban leg of the tour that all posters were stolen soon after being posted in the streets. Compliments don't get better
than that!
Note that, to save cost, the poster was printed
in three process colours – magenta, yellow and black, having
sacrificed the cyan. It's amazing what you can do with limited colour.
